Camping in the New Forest

I’ve finally got round to doing this, so last weekend, we went camping in the New Forest and had an awesome time. We stayed on the Campmates site, just a mile from Lepe Country Park

Campmates Holidays are designed “Exclusively” for Single Parents families and their focus is just as much about the Parents as it is the children. They bring hundreds of Single Parent families together every year for fun camping holidays in the beautiful New Forest (and other events throughout the year).

This was our second year staying on this site and Charlie is already asking when we’re going back, we only went from Thursday to Monday, but he wants to do a full week next year, which we may do as it’ll give us more time to explore more of the New Forest.

We arrived on the Thursday afternoon where we were show to our tents, one of the reason’s I chose Campmates is that the tents are all pre pitched for you and they also supply camp beds, cooking utensils, kettle and a small gas stove, so all we have to take is our bedding, clothing and food.  That evening we had a welcome meeting, then a movie put on in the “den” (you will see in one of the photo’s below).

Friday, a group of us went crabbing by the beach in the morning, then headed back to the campsite and the kids just had fun playing in the field and exploring the woods around the campsite. (Charlie did catch bigger ones, I will share the video of us releasing them on our Facebook & Twitter pages)

Saturday, we went for a lovely picnic down by the river right in the New Forest, we even had a visit from one of the ponies (didn’t have my phone at that point, so couldn’t get a photo). The kids had so much fun playing in the river, this is Charlie at the start and end of the morning!

We went back to the campsite to get cleaned up where we then had a group BBQ put on by the Campmates staff (small charge for that) then a fun game of bingo.

Sunday a few of us went crabbing again in the morning, then myself & Charlie went into the beautiful Beaulieu as he wanted to see the ponies up close, which he got to do. We all met back at the campsite where we had our last meal / evening together before heading home Monday morning. Myself and Charlie would thoroughly recommend Campmates to anyone thinking of going. Just to add, if you are a family (with or without kids) and like the sound of this, you can do this through their sister company Eazycamp who have two sites, one next door to Campmates and one a mile up the road by the beach
