Valentines Weekend

This weekend we had a fairly quiet weekend, Mum and Charlie started a little tradition in 2018 by going for afternoon tea to celebrate Valentines Day, we went to Downhill Hotel and Spa again this year and it was awesome

The staff are so friendly and accommodating and made a real fuss of Charlie, if you are ever in the East Hertfordshire area, its definitely worth going and in such a beautiful location

Charlie asked the question, why is Afternoon Tea called afternoon tea? Mum found this as a great explanation:

Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o’clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

She got this from the Historic UK website

Earlier in the day, mum popped into Bishop Stortford to H&M in the Jackson Square shopping centre and ended-up buying this perfect t-shirt for Charlie

Today (Sunday) has been a chilled one, Charlie went swimming with his Pappy again to the Manor of Groves in the morning and then again with his other grandad in the afternoon but to Ongar Leisure Centre

Half term this week, Charlie’s going to Multi Active for three days then we’re meeting friends at Paradise Wildlife Park on Thursday and Chessington on Friday, so look out for some extra blogs this week

Hope everyone had an awesome weekend and we hope you have a great week ahead xx
